Marriott hack update: Hotel now admits hackers got passport numbers

The Marriott hotel chain, the world’s largest hotel company, said fewer affected in the mass data breach than initially feared. Marriott International Inc. confirmed that hackers managed to stole the passport number of millions of people as said by the security analyst describing as a potential foreign-intelligence gold mine.

The hotel chain said in a statement that the number of guests involved in the data breach is lower than the original estimate of 500 million, but declined to say how many were in affected by this data breach.

Security analysts are warning those affected that the passport data could be used to commit more critical forms of attack, including foreign intelligence surveillance, and could enable more deeper information about each of the breach victims.

The attack carried out by attacker has following information:

• Passport number
• Email addresses
• Payment-card data of some guests
