A hacktivist group known as Mysterious Team Bangladesh has been linked to over 750 distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks and 78 website defacements since June 2022.
According to a report sent to The Hacker News by the Singapore-based cybersecurity company Group-IB, “the group targets Israel and India’s financial, government, and logistics organizations most frequently.” “Religious and political motivations are the group’s main driving forces.”
Australia, Senegal, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Ethiopia are a few of the additional nations that are being targeted.
The threat actor is also reported to have accessed administrative panels and web servers, most likely by taking advantage of known security holes or weak passwords.
It is believed that Mysterious Team Bangladesh is of Bangladeshi descent, as the name suggests. The Facebook group’s introduction states, “We are working to protect Our Bangladesh Cyberspace.”
Both Twitter and Telegram are used by the group for social media activity. It claims to support Palestine, that the “Israeli Government killing & torturing Palestine people’s,” and that “we will attack their cyberspace until they stop killing Palestine People’s” in its LinkedIn profile, which shows “Operation Israel” as an ongoing effort since June 2022.
On June 22, 2022, the gang launched its first offensive campaign against India, showing a preference for official websites and those of banks and financial institutions.
The current geopolitical struggle, in which hacktivists have engaged in numerous campaigns, may be to blame for the revival of hacktivism around the world, according to the company.
DDoS Attack Meaning
DDoS Attack, also known as a “Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack,” is a type of cybercrime where the perpetrator overwhelms a server with internet traffic in an effort to prohibit users from accessing linked websites and online services.
The reasons for a DDoS vary greatly, as do the kinds of people and organizations eager to carry out this kind of cyberattack. Some assaults are conducted by irate people and hacktivists who wish to knock down a company’s servers in order to make a statement, have fun by taking advantage of cyberweakness, or show their displeasure.
DDoS Attack Mechanism
A DDoS assault seeks to overwhelm the targeted target’s devices, services, and network with fictitious internet traffic so that legitimate users won’t be able to utilize them or they will become worthless.
The information being released at the same time as a new wave of disruptive DDoS attacks on websites in Spain and Italy in recent weeks have been connected to a pro-Russian hacktivist collective known as NoName057(16).
